What BioManager is
What BioManager keeps for a lab, and how it differs from a spreadsheet.
BioManager is one place for what a biology lab keeps: animals (mice, zebrafish, flies, worms, or any organism you describe), plasmids, samples, orders, reagents, antibodies and viruses, with a calendar and a notebook beside them. It looks and edits like a spreadsheet, but underneath it is a database that understands your lab: it knows a mouse lives in a cage on a rack, that a litter born today is weaned at P21, that a vial at 18 °C is flipped half as often as at 25 °C, and that an antibody expires next month.
It comes in two forms, the same program in both:
| Desktop app | For one person. macOS, Windows or Linux; your data stays on your computer. |
|---|---|
| Lab server | For a whole lab: one BioManager that everyone opens in a browser, the Android app, or from an iPhone's home screen. Usually free to host. Every way to run one. The desktop app can set one up for you: Settings → Set up a lab server asks where it should go, does the work, and can bring your records along. |
