How to…
Record a litter
When pups are born in a breeding cage, record the date once and BioManager works out when they are weaned and genotyped.

- In the mouse colony, open the Cages tab.Not there? The My colony / My groups / Shared / Everyone switch changes which cages you see.
- Find the breeding cage and open it with the arrow at the start of its row or its mice count, or find its card under Cards.Litter born, Genotyping and Wean are on cages whose purpose is Breeder or Breeding.
- Press Litter born.
- Check the Date of birth: it is today unless you change it, and a date in the future is refused. If the cage already has a litter date, the dialog says the new one replaces it.
- Press Record the litter.
BioManager works out weaning (P21) and genotyping (P28, or the day chosen in Lab setup), which appear on Home and the calendar when due — the same list in both. In the cage's row, Litter born and Wean due come right after the mice. To make a record for each pup, go on to Genotype a litter.
One litter date per cageA cage holds one litter date, so a new litter replaces the last. If those pups are still in the cage, wean them first.
