Everyday skills

Many at once

Select many records and change, move or print them in one go.

Add many
For a new group: describe one record and say how many. In inventories and plasmids you can instead paste a list of names, one per line. For mice, say how many females and males, or load a CSV (Download a template gives the columns); you then see an editable preview with the numbers that will be assigned. There, Fill down copies the cell you're in to every row below (Ctrl/⌘ + D too), and nothing is saved until you press Create.
Import from Excel
For the sheet you already keep. Every database takes an Excel workbook or CSV, with any columns: you check how they were matched, see a preview of what would be created and which rows would be skipped, then import them as one batch you can undo. See Bring your lab in.
Select and act
Tick rows (shift-click selects a range) and a bar rises from the bottom: set a field, move, change owner or status, sac, retire, delete. Set field sets any column on them, your own columns included (a date column takes a date, a number column a number). Records you may not change are skipped and counted, never silently changed.
Duplicate
Copies a record as a new one of yours — the next aliquot, or the same order again.
